It's hard to believe that school starts back up in just a few weeks. Where did the summer go? I've been busy working on my master's degree by completing courses at the University of Memphis with a focus on Eureka Math and pedagogy. I'm thrilled to know that I will be able to bring so much of what I've learned into the classroom! Luckily, I did get a small break from the University of Memphis and was able to make it to the beach in order to rejuvenate.
This year we will be building on your child's understanding of place value, whole numbers, and rational numbers (fractions, decimals). Your child's mind will be stretched. I have already posted the first newsletter for Eureka Math. The parent resource website page offers newsletters, videos, and suggested activities to complete at home. It is important to note that Eureka Math offers students a variety of strategies to solve problems. Our goal is that students have a strong understanding of Number Theory and develop a strong conceptual understanding.
The White Station Elementary web page has a suggested math packet for rising fifth graders. Our supply list is also available on the website. The website is a wonderful tool. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child.
